Company History
Counsel On Call was created by Jane H. Allen in 2000, born out of personal experiences as a practicing attorney. While she enjoyed the practice of law, Allen was frustrated with the lack of opportunities for talented attorneys who didn’t want to pursue partnership in a law firm. Additionally, as someone who previously held responsibilities over cases at a law firm, she knew there had to be a better way to manage the constant changes in workload other than the hiring of more associates.
With these factors in mind, Counsel On Call was formed as a way for talented attorneys to obtain flexible work positions in their chosen field. It also provided an attractive new source of high-level attorneys for law firms and corporate legal departments without adding to their respective payrolls.
Using its experienced attorneys and proven processes, the company works closely with corporate legal departments and law firms – across all areas of law – to smartly and dramatically reduce costs, manage workloads and improve quality. The company works in three main ways: 1.) deploying one attorney at a time, 2.) through managed services, a model in which teams of attorneys efficiently handle large-volume matters, and 3.) consulting on and implementing effective legal processes. Counsel On Call attorneys often work with schedule flexibility and are dedicated to one client.
Headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., Counsel On Call has offices across the country and Managed Services Centers in Atlanta, Dallas and Nashville. The company has hundreds of attorneys working throughout the U.S. and internationally.
