The Roger Williams University Law Library seeks an engaging Research and Instructional Services Librarian to join the law library in January 2026. Reporting to the Associate Law Librarian for Research and Administration, you'll play a pivotal role in fostering a supportive environment for students and faculty alike.
Key Responsibilities:
In addition to delivering comprehensive reference, research, and instructional services, the Research and Instructional Services Librarian will coordinate our instructional programs, including our embedded legal research instruction in the first-year Legal Practice program, research instruction for clinical and externship programs, and training for law journals and co-curricular programs, with in-depth support, outreach to, and engagement with students from the entire law school program. The Research and Instructional Services Librarian will succeed in these endeavors by cultivating collaborative relationships within the library, with law school faculty and other members of the community, with the University librarians, and with the larger law librarianship community.
RWU Law librarians contribute to library-wide initiatives and strategic planning efforts, collect and analyze statistics to support program assessment and reporting, serve on relevant committees, and contribute to collection development efforts. The library administration supports and encourages active participation in local, regional, and national professional development activities.
Job Requirements:
Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent library experience.
Excellent legal research skills and advanced knowledge of legal resources.
Ability to provide professional customer service to a diverse patron population.
Ability to relate to and effectively communicate with law faculty, students, staff, and visitors.
Experience working with a student body, faculty, and staff with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and projects.
Attention to detail needed to complete tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
Advanced computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Availability to work evening and weekend hours, as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of law library experience.
Demonstrated teaching ability and experience with instructional design and technologies.
Demonstrated experience coordinating services among team members and external partners.
Demonstrated experience providing outreach/engagement services.
Demonstrated experience providing legal research and/or legal technology instruction.
Demonstrated experience with established and emerging technologies, including but not limited to reference, instructional, social media, and web development technologies.
At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
